What is a trust metric?

You can directly determine who is trustworthy from a community of several hundred people. However, given a community of several million, you have to rely at least for a first pass on indirect trust assessments, based on who is trusted by people you trust in turn. Trust metrics aim to automate this process.

The most famous example of a trust metric is Google's PageRank algorithm which is the key to its ability to give you the most useful hits first.
